Last day in Washington DC
|
|
Didn't manage to take too many photos on my digital camera.. ran out of space, hence not that many photos.
On this day, we started our tour with a visit to the money printers and learnt a bit about the greenbacks. Then we went to the Holocaust Museums... felt a bit funny being there... you know, being a muslim and visiting a jewish museum. Ppl must have wondered about our presence too.. oh well.
Then we were off to the White House and the parks nearby. By this time, I had ran out of memory space
After that, we walked through the office areas incuding the Treasury and took photos outside the FBI building. I was really excited coz at the time I was this HUGE x-files fan and was imagining seeing Mulder and Scully walking out the building, heheh

To the Capital!
|
|
After a full day of shopping at Potomac Mills (and I really mean FULL DAY!!), we headed into the city to give our purses a rest
Took the train down from Lorton, Virginia where we stayed with friends into the heart of Washington DC. After taking in the sights at the Grand Central station, we headed out to explore the city.
Washington DC's metro network is not as extensive as New York city... which meant that we had a lot of walking... and I mean A LOT!! The sites are also quite spread out.. which meant plenty of leg exercise.. and coupled with the heat and humidity (it was just like being in KL), it was quite tiring. Which you can clearly see from the progression in our photos... fresh as daisies earlier in the day and berpeluh2 and muka berminyak by the end. We were VERY glad each time we enter a building because it meant air-condition!! hehe...
We visited The Capitol and although the day's visiting tickets were no longer available, we were lucky that as foreign visitors, they had special entrance passes yippee!! So we actually sat in the Senate Hall... walked through the corridors of power... where decisions that affect the history of the world are made.
We walked around the area.. can't remember the names of all the administrative buildings... they all look almost the same
Then it was a tour of the Smithsonian museums. The lovely thing about museums in Washington DC is that they're all free Since we're short on time, we decided to visit the Space Museum... which was great!
After that we walked to Lincoln Memorial... en route passing by the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool. Again... the tickets for Washington Monument were sold out but we took our chance and queued at the in case ppl don't show up queue and got a ride up. The view from the top was awesome, but unfortunately I didn't capture any on my digital camera.. they're all taken on film camera (that's also why there are some sights which are missing from here). Maybe one day, when I'm rajin enough, I'll scan some of them
We also visited the Vietnam war and Korean war memorials... a solemn reminder of why we should not go to war... people die!!

last day in new york... and it's the 4th of july!!
|
|
there's so much to see in this city and we've ran out of time.
however, we managed to cover all the major sights...
first stop was the Grand Central Station... followed by a trip into a shoe store
then it's a stroll through Central Park... no wonder new yorkers are so proud of it.. it's gorgeous!! a beautiful peaceful park in the middle of busy manhattan
we then went to the best museum in the world (alongside the louvre of course). The Metropolitan Museum is HUGE and a wonderful place to loose oneself. I absolutely luuurrvee this museum (managed to visit again during my second trip to NY).
went back to Central Park for a bit of lepak time... It is definitely a city that never cease to amaze me
